What’s In Store for Growing Small Data Centers?

    By Anistar Technologies | Employers, Hiring, Technology | Comments are Closed | 3 January, 2019 | 1

It shouldn’t be a secret to anyone that the amount of data required to power the world is increasing significantly every day. With the rapid evolution of the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and machine learning, hybrid and cloud computing needs are steadily increasing as well. Anyone with data center operations jobs knows the struggles for a data center to keep up, and especially small data centers. The logical and obvious solution is probably to expand to a larger facility in order to meet those needs, but that’s not necessarily where the trends are headed.

Hyperscale Data Centers Are The Future

The term “hyperscale” almost implies “large-scale” when it comes to data centers. However, hyperscale data centers are unique in the way they are designed, rather than referring to their size. The idea behind them is to use space as efficiently as possible with regards to physical space, energy usage and data transformation. The role of a data center engineer is to identify the needs of their small data center and implement the best practices to ensure all data and bandwidth requirements are met. Many times it involves migrating to a hyperscale data center.

The Role of Edge Data Centers

Edge data centers refer to remote data centers that are typically small in size and are designed to meet the specific needs of small businesses and even individuals. Like with hyperscale data centers, a data center technician must know exactly what requirements need to be met and ensure IoT devices will operate efficiently and there’s no latency for businesses. And every data center technician will say the main advantage of edge data centers is the information is usually processed locally, which simply means data can be collected and processed much more quickly.

Look For Facility Sizes To Decrease

Small data centers looking to grow likely won’t be expanding their physical facility any time soon. With the emergence of hyperscale data centers and the continued benefits provided by edge data centers, there’s no need at this time for small data centers to spend their resources on major physical expansion. Instead, the data centers should rely on their data center engineer to analyze the metrics and determine the most effective ways to meet the ever-growing data needs.

Anistar Technologies has access to an abundance of skilled data center technicians, as well as plenty of great data center operations jobs for people looking for a career in IT.
