Should Your Future Self be a Network Engineer?

By Anistar Technologies | Careers, Employee Resources, Technology | Comments are Closed | 10 July, 2018 | 1

A career as a network engineer is extremely demanding, but also very rewarding. One of the main reasons why it’s so rewarding is because there are always new things to learn, and the satisfaction of completing a big project either individually or with a team is usually very high. Of course, the better-than-average salary also makes the career rewarding.

Most network engineers have various responsibilities, so the most skilled professionals will have a wide array of experience. Not everyone is cut out to handle the demands of a career in network engineering, but if you have an overall passion for technology, then it may be worth pursuing. Here are some things to consider about IT networking jobs to help shape your career path.

    What Network Engineers Do

Network engineers can do anything from working on routers, firewalls and switches to intrusion detection systems and general network and server maintenance. There isn’t a standard job description for network engineers, and many companies have different requirements. You may have to do some investigations on past IT issues in order to solve a current problem on a daily basis. Or you may be tasked with designing or maintaining your company’s network. One thing you can guarantee is there is always something to do for network engineers and the profession is in high demand.

Requirements For Becoming A Network Engineer

All of the best network engineers are critical thinkers and won’t stop a project until they’ve found a solution. Having a background in IT is a great place to start, but you will also need to continue your education by taking certification courses, working on your own projects off the clock and staying up-to-date with the latest technology trends. Not all network installers share the same career path, so you have the flexibility to define yours how you want. The one thing to always remember is a career in network engineering isn’t a traditional 9-5 job in most cases, so you have to accept those demands in order to be truly happy and successful in the profession.

Finding The Right Job To Match Your Skills

There are plenty of IT networking jobs available throughout the country, but many of them are only open to professionals with a certain amount of experience. The good news is you don’t need a ton of experience to get your foot in the door of the IT industry. Companies are generally willing to take a chance on an entry level candidate to see exactly what their skills are and how their work ethic is. Working with a staffing agency can be the best way to go about finding the right fit to define your career path.

Anistar Technologies is here to help candidates interested in the IT industry find the jobs that match their specific skills and desires. Our network of candidates and employers is extensive, and we spend a great deal of time ensuring we find the right fit for both parties. So if you have any interest in becoming a network engineer now or in the future, don’t hesitate to contact us and we will help guide you along the right path.
